The sooner the better

Positrigo AG is a successful ETHZ spin-off and has been working together with SwissFactory Value Engineering and Stoppani Contract Manufacturing AG since April 2022 on the realization of a PET scanner prototype (where PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography). ProtoShape 3DPrinting AG (PROT) is now also on board!
The customer has particular requirements for the design of each component. For example, the handle for adjusting the scanner's angle consists almost entirely of free-form shapes, so manufacturing by CNC milling would be very lengthy and expensive. ProtoShape thus comes into consideration as an alternative supplier for the component. After an initial successful prototype, the component could be further optimized. It is now hollow and has a wall thickness of 2mm. This resulted in a 40% reduction in weight and manufacturing costs.
